Frequently Asked Questions
About Laser Hair Removal
Why use a laser for hair removal? Though there are many
ways to remove unwanted hair (such as shaving and plucking), lasers
are the best method for permanent hair reduction. In addition, a large area
of the skin can be treated via laser hair removal at one time,
making the laser hair removal procedure faster and even more
cost-effective.
How is laser hair removal at the NYC Laser Hair Removal
Center of Manhattan, New York different from electrolysis?
Electrolysis treatment removes one hair at a time. Laser hair
removal is much quicker. An area like the underarms, for
example, can be treated by laser hair removal in less than 5
minutes.
How does laser hair removal work? The laser is guided
by a beam of light that searches for a mass of hair follicles (not
just one like electrolysis or tweezing) deep beneath the skin
disabling or destroying the hair root. The laser beam targets only
the hair follicles and not the surrounding skin. For comfort, the
skin is cooled by a state-of-the-art cooling system during the laser
hair removal treatment. The laser destroys hairs in its active
growth phase and up to 85% of our hair is in that phase at any given
time. This is why you may need multiple laser hair removal
treatments at the NYC Laser Hair Removal Center.
Is laser hair removal permanent? All of the
NYC Laser Hair Removal patient's skin and hair is unique and will
react differently to the laser. The FDA has approved the lasers used
by the NYC Laser Hair Removal Center as permanent hair reduction
devices. That does not mean 100% hair removal. What is does mean is
that a significant percentage of hair that is treated with the laser
will never grow back. Each session at the Manhattan, New York
laser hair removal center should prove to be more
successful at removing the remaining hairs than the previous.
This is why you may need multiple laser hair removal treatments.
Who is a candidate for laser hair removal at the NYC Laser
Hair Removal Center of Manhattan, New York?
Both men and women of varying skin types seek laser hair removal
services to have unwanted hair removed. Laser hair removal is most
commonly performed on the hairline, eyebrow, top of the nose, lip,
chin, ear lobe, shoulders, back, underarm, abdomen, buttocks, pubic
area, bikini lines, thighs, face, neck, breast, arms, legs, hands,
and toes.
How many laser hair removal treatments will I need?
Most people need at least 3 initial treatments at the Manhattan
Laser Hair Removal Center; spaced 3-4 weeks
apart depending on their cycle of hair growth.
How long has laser hair removal technology been in use?
Lasers have been used in medicine by doctors for over 20 years. Laser hair removal
began over 10 years ago, but hair removal laser technology has
progressed to become the standard for hair removal since 2002.
